Hey. Looking at EVE's awesome concept art and chronicle illustrations, I am hellbent at learning some of the techniques the EVE art team uses. In my long quest to achieve this I came up with this:
An Amarr overlord is visiting a Caldari station to set up a flight path for a convoy of slave transports, travelling trough Caldari space. The overlord will also pay for a Caldari escort at a symbolic price, as a show of good faith in these times of war. The Minmatar feels the need to act, bloody and puplicly.
Minmatar Commandos in Caldari Station
Facts: Made in photoshop using only the round standard brush. Wacom Intous 3 tablet. Original resolution: 1920x1200 Time spendt: More hours than I've kept track off. Coffee Consumed: Nothing.
I am looking at getting into brushes next. Although I know they are often cheap weapons for concealing lacking skill, they still are effective tools.

Originally by: Sharp Feather Woooooooh, thats really awesome! I wish such things will be able to happen in AMBULATION. Mind if I use it as wallpaper? Really really awesome... I mean, you captured the design of the minmatar perfectly.
Bravo.
I'd be honoured, any specific resolution you want it in?

Edited by: Mavrix Able on 17/06/2009 09:48:14 Thanks for all the comments! I've added the full resolution to EVE-Files and linked it in the OP.
Any suggestions for a next motive? I am trying to keep ontop of the ball for the summer and not get lazy.
Edit: Oh and in space there is no up and down.

The left (his left) arm on the top commando is shorter in the larger image.
Nicely spotted, yeah I though the arm had turned somewhat long in the perspective it is seen in.
Originally by: EnslaverOfMinmatar Looks great, is it just 1 layer?
No its a metric ton of layers, but thats mostly because I have a somewhat messy workflow.
First layer is was the lineart, second was the shaft with no details, in that layer I then proceeded to roughly block in the large shapes. Then there is a layer for details, mainly on the guy. Then there is a colour layer to add a bit of variation, the girders are in their own layer and so are the brighest highlights. Edit: and the details on the shaft is a layer in its own.
